🌸 About Sober Yoga Girl

Hi, I’m Alexandra McRobert - aka Sober Yoga Girl.

I’m a yoga teacher, writer, podcast host, and lifelong student of spiritual wisdom. I created Sober Yoga Girl as a sanctuary for seekers on the path of healing - those navigating recovery from addiction, trauma, mental health challenges, or just the overwhelm of being human in this modern world.

This space is where I share my journey - raw, real, and rooted in ancient teachings.

I write about what it means to live a conscious, sober life using the tools of yoga: the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Bhagavad Gita, Buddha Dharma, and modern recovery frameworks like the 12 Steps. My writing weaves personal stories, spiritual reflections, and practical insights to help you remember who you really are beneath the noise of the world.

Whether you're sober, sober-curious, healing from something, or just craving depth - you’re welcome here.

🧘🏽‍♀️ What You’ll Find Here

  • Seva Writing (Free): Weekly essays offered in the spirit of service—insightful reflections on sobriety, spirituality, yoga philosophy, and life in Bali and beyond.

  • Sādhanā Circle (Paid): Deeper, more personal essays and behind-the-scenes glimpses into my practice, teachings, and evolution. Paid members can also join our private community chat.

  • Sutra Sangha (Community + Live): A global community of yogis in recovery (whether that’s from alcohol use, co-dependency, trauma, mental health - or anything else!). The Sutra Sangha has four Zoom calls a month. Each month, I take a theme from the Yoga Sutras and develop two meditation circles and two yoga practices around the theme. Join us. Let this be your inspiration for life, learning and teaching.

This isn’t just a Substack - it’s a sangha. A sacred space for healing, connection, and coming home to your Self.

🌍 My Dharma

I’ve spent the past ten years living in Asia and eleven years teaching yoga. In the last six years I’ve specialized in leading yoga teacher trainings, retreats, and sober circles around the world - from India to Bali to Canada and beyond. My dharma is to help women reconnect to their truth through yoga, meditation, and conscious community.

I’m currently writing my second book, Yoga Sutra Recovery, and deepening my studies in yoga therapy and philosophy while continuing to walk my own path of healing.

✨ Let’s Walk Together

Whether you’re brand new to yoga or deep into your practice, whether you're early in sobriety or years into recovery - you belong here. Together, we’ll learn to quiet the mind (citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ), reconnect with our breath, and remember that we are already whole.

Thank you for being here.

With love and light,
Alexandra
